Dina Asher-Smith became the first British women to claim the European 100m title since 1962 when she won in a new national record of 10.85 seconds in Berlin on Tuesday.
Here, Press Association Sport looks at the talking points surrounding her campaign in Germany.
Will she complete the treble?
Asher-Smith is the defending 200m champion following her victory in Amsterdam two years ago. She will be favourite for the title on Saturday while the 4x100m relay squad are in fine form. There is no reason to suggest she cannot.
What is the significance of another British record?
She smashed her own British record of 10.92 with a storming 10.85 in the Olympic Stadium to underline the her improvements. Asher-Smith has played down the fact the time would have won her gold at last year’s World Championships but she has demonstrated her threat on the global scene.
Was her 100m win historic?
Yes, Great Britain had not had a 100m winner since Dorothy Hymen in 1962 and only one podium since 1974 when Asher-Smith blew the field away and, while she needs to continue it to world level next year, she can help usher in British sprinting dominance.
Who are her rivals at next year’s World Championships in Doha?
Dafne Schippers is the reigning champion after her victory in London last year, where Asher-Smith came fourth following her rapid recovery from a broken foot. Asher-Smith has beaten Schippers in their last two races but Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor and Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson have been the ones to beat this year.
