EAST LOTHIAN farmer and farming contractor John Playfair recently completed a lap of the Knockhill Racing Circuit – totally blind! John is fundraising for Edinburgh University’s medical research into the genetic condition that is robbing him, and potentially others in his family, of sight. As a result of 'late onset retinal degeneration' John is partially sighted, so was blindfolded to ensure the lap was sight-free. He was guided by daughter Sarah, who was an international motor-sportswoman – and as a racing instructor said: “It was a lot easier than some people with full sight I’ve instructed.”
