This year has been another great year for farm toy and model releases and there is still time to get your hands on them!
Manufacturers continue to thrill fans with replicas of the latest farm machinery plus the ever-popular vintage and classic scale versions.
Britains Farm Toys have had another successful year, releasing everything from a farm vet set complete with accessories to a New Holland CR9.90 combine.
They are Europe’s oldest specialist in agricultural toys and collectibles and has had a place in carpet farming, both as toys for the younger generations and for collectors of all ages, since its introduction of the Britains Home Farm series in 1921.
Having first introduced the model tractor, the Fordson Major in 1948, a version of which can still be purchased today, following a re-release to commemorate their centenary in farm toys back in 2021.
“This year looks like it’s not going to disappoint after the teasers we’ve seen from most model manufacturers. One release which spurred a lot of interest when showcased at the LCN show in Holland in October was a new casting from Marge Models, the iconic series three Landrover in 1/32 scale, as seen on the majority of farms at the time,” said farm toy enthusiast, Atholl Lipp.
Mr Lipp is also involved in one of the biggest farm toy and model events, the North East Model Farm and Construction Show at Newmachar, which was started by a group of collectors and enthusiasts back in 2010.
Having had 13 shows to date the next one is set to take place on Sunday May 4, 2025.
Each year, the organisers commission a limited run of ‘show models’ designed and liveried exclusively to commemorate the show. These are sold off for charity with 50 made for the event annually.
On the day attendees can see many displays of collections including farm machinery, trucks and vans, meccano, cars as well as construction equipment. Furthermore, several national farm toy specialist retailers are in attendance from whom collectors can purchase the latest releases as well as obsolete models.
Dioramas are another important feature of the show, where you can see the talent of model builders and layout creators put on display.
The show has been greatly supported by the local toy and model communities which has given the organisation the opportunity to donate more than £21,000 to local charities over the years, which have included Clan, Archie Foundation and Brain Injury Grampian.
