Planning a wedding just four months before their big day might be considered crazy but that’s the road Lyndsay Wilson and Iain Baillie decided to go down.
The couple, who live on Iain’s family beef and sheep farm, Low Glasnick, at Kirkcowan, Dumfries and Galloway – farmed by the Baillies for well over 30 years – were intrigued by the prospect of a ‘wee wedding’ organised by Crear Weddings at Kilberry, near Tarbert in Argyll.
“I got in touch with them through their Facebook page where they were talking about ‘wee elopement’ weddings,” explains Lyndsay. “The whole wedding was planned through them, right down to the flowers, photographer and the piper – all we had to organise was Iain’s kilt and my dress, and the legal paperwork which was sorted through the local registrar at Lochgilphead.
“We were married on a beautiful beach and the sun was shining so that was a bonus for Scotland. Our witnesses were the piper and the photographer.”
The couple shared their plans to ‘elope’ with just a few people and they had the blessings of their parents.
“We got ready at our cottage there with the help of a makeup artist/hairdresser, then it was off to the beach to get married, photos.
“A beautiful three-course meal was delivered to our cottage after we got married then we enjoyed our champagne relaxing on the beach – it was the most perfect day.”
Back home, Lyndsay and Iain then had a party in the cattle shed on the farm where they told all their family and close friends as they got out of their cars.
“They thought they were attending an end-of-summer BBQ,” says Lyndsay.
“Our cake was a gift organised by our friend Jennifer-Anne, beautifully made by Jane Dunlop of Sandhead. Our flowers were a mixture of white roses and, of course, thistles.”
Lyndsay’s wedding dress was from Galloway Bridal in Stranraer while Iain was fitted out by Slaters in Ayr.
Says Lyndsay, who works at a day centre for the elderly, says: “I don’t come from farming but always had a great interest in traditional coloured horses.”
The couple spent a short honeymoon in London.
