OF all the things you could invest in, what could be better than your child’s future?
Is the High School of Dundee (HSD) on your radar? You might be surprised by what it can offer and the amazing talents it can uncover in your children.
Ready for the real world
Its location in the heart of the city helps its pupils feel connected to the real world. Through a grounded confidence they quickly become ready to apply the skills they acquire in any setting. They gain an appreciation for hard work and a respect for where it can take them.
Smaller class sizes ensure genuine individualised support for every pupil. This allows the school’s passionate teachers to find each child’s own unique talents and potential. And once that potential is uncovered, it is nurtured and then supercharged to realisation!
There is no fixed path for the school’s pupils. A young person’s talents and ambitions can lie in any sphere and the school supports its young people to make ‘their’ future happen. Every year, pupils are supported to achieve superb levels of success with applications beyond school to hundreds of courses, internships, volunteering opportunities and work.
Rector Lise Hudson says: “Our focus is on building broad transferable skills for the modern world by integrating STEM, enterprise, innovation and real-world learning into our curriculum.”
Pupils work on real-world projects with local businesses and HSD has Scotland’s only timetabled school robotics lessons.

A supportive environment
Individual support for learning is available from P1 through to S6.
A commitment to getting pastoral care right is a golden thread that runs through everything the school does. Working in partnership with parents, it offers bespoke social and emotional pastoral support, with full-time, expert staff from P1-S6.
Mrs Hudson says: “When we get pastoral care and wellbeing right, then our pupils flourish – they develop the confidence and resilience to discover who they are and excel.”
Choice and the opportunity to excel
Twenty-four subjects are offered at Higher level, 24 at Advanced Higher, and 23 at National 5. Co-curricular activities abound (over 80) ensuring every opportunity is available for your child, including a unique High Performance Sport programme and countless musical groups and performances.
In the Junior Years (P1-7), every day the children spend time working on the crucial building blocks of literacy and numeracy. Every week, the school’s Secondary teachers deliver lessons in Junior Years too. P1-5 have music and PE while P6 and P7 also have drama, computing, Mandarin, and health and food technology specialist lessons.
The children dive into the co-curriculum too – sport, music, Pipe Band, construction and more. These opportunities provide the teamwork, friendship and confidence that’s crucial to a child’s development. Pupils have plenty of fun, but their timetables give structure and planned progression to their learning.
