AS the UK Government announces plans to impose VAT on independent school fees from January 2025, the Scottish Council of Independent Schools (SCIS) has made clear that such a move will have negative consequences for the Scottish education system.
It has said that the introduction of VAT will disrupt the education of thousands of children in the independent sector and place a significant burden on the state sector and says it regularly engages with politicians of all political parties to promote the benefits of the independent sector and highlight the unintended consequences of policies which could harm the education of those in the sector and beyond.
The SCIS commissioned an independent economic analysis of the sector in Scotland from BiGGAR economics. The full report, along with other information on the issue of VAT, can be found on the SCIS website: www.scis.org.uk.
