A top price of £6500, coupled with another two at £6000, made for a buoyant sale of Blackface rams at Hexham and Northern Marts’ sale at Hexham.

Sale leader was a shearling ram from Robert and Richard Airey, Brownchesters. A son of a Stuart Robson, High Leam-bred sheep, he sold jointly to Edges Green team and Messrs Robson, Townshields.

Hitting the £6000 mark was a shearling son of a Milnmark sire from Andrew and Sam Murray and Sons, of Stell Green (West Dean Raw) enterprise. It sold to Messrs Armstrong and Hunter, Carrick and Andrew Hunter, The Steel. Their No 3, by a Hot Bank ram made £3000 to Andrew Gibson, Thornton Tower.

On the other side of the coin, Stell Green sold their winning Scotch-type ram for £3500 to Annabelle Morshead, Nilston Rigg. It is sired by a Wester Crosswoodhill ram.

The overall champion selected by Finlay Robertson, Crosswoodhill, West Calder, from W Walton, Toft House, made £4000 selling to the shearling judge, Willie Walton, Penpeugh. He is sired by a £10,000 Frank Hall-bred sheep.

Also making £6000 was the shealring from LampertsAlso making £6000 was the shealring from Lamperts Another from Toft House, by the same sire, made £5000 when selling to Charlie Halbert, Prospect House.

Richard Thompson, Keepers Cottage made the long trip from Tomatin, Inverness with his first pen of rams from Clune and Corrybrough. Both were sired by the £5500 Wanwood Hill and sold at £1800 to The Lamperts and at £1400 to Jamie Wood, Prendwick, respectively.
