A joint top price of £650 was achieved at a sale of 3670 registered and unregistered Swaledale ewes, gimmers and ewe lambs, at Kirkby Stephen

First was a pen of ewes from Messrs Hutchinson, Valley Farm, Bowes, purchased by Messrs Scott, Low House, Barnard Castle, followed by the reserve pen of females – gimmers from Arngill House flock dispersal, which sold to J York.

Arngill House also took the champion ticket with a pen of ewes which went on to sell for £450 to Messrs Bousfield, Fieldham House, Brough.

Ewes averaged £176.14, up £49.24 on the year, with gimmers cashing in at £163.29, which represents a rise of £44.64.

Ewe lambs were topped at £160 by a pen from Messrs Jopling, Holly Cottage Barn, Nateby, purchased by Messrs Wilkinson, Shield Hurst, Stanhope. They averaged £75.57. was achieved.
