It was ladies day at the Welshpool Bluefaced Leicester show and sale with a large entry of females forward from a couple of flock dispersals and two major reduction sales providing headline prices and several selling up to Scotland.

Topping the trade at 1650gns was a gimmer from Phil May who was reducing his Derwenlas flock from Powys. His S35, a daughter of Kildalloig P6 was purchased by new breeder, Alfie Benbow, buying for the Borderland flock from Four Crosses, Powys.

The first prize ewe and reserve female champion from Derwenlas – P27, by Mynydd Glas M1 – then made 1300gns, selling to to Claish Farms, Callander.

Claish Farms also forked out 1600gns for the overall champion from Dick Montague’s Ashdown dispersal, Highampton, Devon. The S13 gimmer is sired by a Martin Grange M9. Sophie Harding’s second prize gimmer from the Shrewbridge flock, Nantwich, made 1450gns selling north with Mrs RJ Claydon of the Clarilaw flock, Melrose. Her Shrewbridge S18, by the Ashes N3, is a full sister to the R16 Royal Welsh champion, and S17 that took the honours at the Welshpool Progeny Show in August.
