Cast sheep (4959) reached £330 for Texel tups from J Elliott, Roxburgh Mains, Kelso, with cast cattle peaking at £1296 or 188p for a Longhorn from A Roskell and Partners, Laverhay, Moffat.

Lambs (4900) averaged 283p at the United Auctions’ sale having sold to 351p for Beltex from West Park, or £169 for Suffolks from South Flanders. Cast sheep (2215) peaked at £240 for Texel ewes from Fidden.

Caledonian Marts’ sold 25 heifers to average 310.51p per kg, selling to 352p or £2407.20 for a British Blue from Ross Bros, Wardhead, Strichen, while five bullocks averaged 274.06p and sold to 290p or £2103 for a Limousin from AA and J Brand, Nethermyres. Six young bulls sold to 242.91p or £1586 for a British Blue cross from HT Shanks, Easter Cash and 38 cast cattle levelled at 194.54p having sold to 244.5p or £1990 for a British Blue from J Pirie, Laighpark.

On Tuesday, 1447 lambs averaged 278p, selling to 349p for Beltex from D Nicol, Auchtenny or £194 for Texels from A Smith, Mucklebrae. Cast sheep sold to £239 for a pair of Texel ewes from DL Young, Finmont.

Lambs (1372) averaged 286p per kg at the Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale where prices peaked at 355.2p for Beltex from Plewlands, Duffus, or to £184 for 61kg Texels from Newton of Budgate, Cawdor.

Cast sheep (1098) averaged £95.62 and sold to £254.50 for Texels from The Cottage, Wardes.

Bullocks (13) sold to 333p for a 590kg Limousin cross from Whiteside, Tullynessle and to £2478.60 for 1020kg Simmental from Wester Coltfield, Kinloss while 23 heifers reached 319p and £1934 both for Limousin crosses from New Mains, Glenkindie.

Young bulls (12) sold to 301p for an 820kg Limousin from Knocknagael, Essich Road and to £2481.70 for an 830kg Limousin from West Knock, Mintlaw. Cast cattle reached £2580 for a 926kg Limousin cow from West Knock.

Darlington Farmers Auction Mart saw 2057 sheep and 166 head of cattle sold at their sale where 32 bullocks averaged 299p and sold to 334p for a Limousin from Taylor Bros, Belle Isle Farm or to £2269 for a Charolais from R Miller Ltd, Arkleby Hall.

Heifers (70) averaged 332p and sold to 357p for a pair of Limousins from JV and JA Hodgson, The Grange or £2297 for a British Blue from WA Armstrong, Coxhoe and 64 young bulls averaged 291p having reached 337p for a Limousin from W and M Knaggs and Son, East Newbiggin or £2617 for another of the same from JA Matten and Son, Avenue Grange.

Lambs (1651) averaged 289p and realised 363.3p or £178 for three 49kg Beltex from AWSM Farms with cast sheep reaching £170 for a continental ewe from F and JS Gargett, Westwick Farm.

St Boswells

Bullocks and heifers averaged 300p and 301p per kg respectively at the Harrison and Hetherington sale where 44 bullocks sold to 325p from Learielaw and Bee Edge, or £2574.72 from Wellheads.

Heifers (43) peaked at 334p from Bee Edge and £2321.28 from Wellheads and cast cattle (38) sold to 263p for a cow from Huntington and £1879.02 for a cow from Upper Blainslie.

Lambs (1866) averaged 284p having sold to 400p or £175 for Texels and Beltex from Messrs Runciman, Huntington with the 491 cast sheep reaching £252 for a Texel ewe from Huntington.

Carlisle

Beltex topped the lamb trade at the Harrison and Hetherington’s sale reaching £230 or 511p per kg from Messrs Trafford, Bassenthwaite Hall, with the sale averaging 296p. Cast sheep sold to £280 for Texel ewes from D Stainthorpe, Low Grange Farm.

Limousins led the cattle trade with bullocks to £2311.97 for a 747kg entry from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle or to 317.5p for a 705kg cross from Messrs Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith. Heifers sold to £2428.73 for a 795kg animal from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth and to 343.5p for a 628kg cross from Halfway Well.

Young bulls (74) peaked at £2656.50 for a 924kg Limousin cross from Messrs Hyslop, Gillrigg, Lockerbie and at 328.5p for a British Blue cross from Messrs Brough, Old Rectory, Carlisle.

Cast cattle sold to £2392.16 for a 901kg Limousin cow from Messrs Norman, Little Orton Farm and to 277.5p for a 771kg Limousin cow from Messrs Illingworth, Howgillside.

Lanark

Limousins topped Lawrie and Symington’s sale with heifers and bullocks selling to 348p per kg or £2318 from Brockwoodlees and 298p or £2198 from Walkerdyke respectively. Cast cattle sold to £1910 from Dreva Farm and 262p from Muirburn Farm.

Lambs (3101) averaged 289.5p having sold to 347p for a Beltex from High Dyke Farm and £170 for a Texel from Collielaw Farm. Cast sheep peaked at £290 for a Texel ewe from Riverview House.

Ayr

Some 2350 sheep forward for Craig Wilson’s sale saw 1506 lambs average 282.3p per kg having peaked at 328p for Texel crosses from HR Farms, North Logan or £163 for Aberfields from T Smith, Laigh Borland.

Cast sheep reached £197 for Texel cross ewes from W and A Watson, The Muir.

On Tuesday, bullocks sold to 320p or £2000 for a Limousin from The Smith Family, North Boig with heifers peaking at 328p for a Limousin from the same home.

Cast cattle (76) reached £1660 for an Aberdeen Angus cow from Lower Bardrain.

Quoybrae

Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 975 lambs on Monday to average 275.3p per kg selling to 325.6p for 41kg Suffolks from Backlass Croft, Watten, or £147.50 for 51kg Beltex from Bardnaclavan, Bridge of Westfield; 63kg Charollais from 31 Larel, Halkirk, and for 59kg Texels from Midtown, Freswick.

Huntly

Some 1964 sheep forward for United Auctions’ sale saw 1369 lambs average 268p selling to 305p for 39kg continentals from Knockandhu, Craigellachie or £142.50 for 56.3kg Texels from Sandydays, Glass.

Cast sheep peaked at £200 for a Texel ewe from 2 Balloch View, Grange.

Dingwall

Dingwall and Highland Marts sold 341 lambs and 511 cast sheep at their sale on Tuesday.

Lambs sold to 279p for 43kg Beltex crosses from Hatton Cottage, Dallas or £135 for a pair of 60kg Texel crosses from Cor An Easan, Newtonmore.

Cast sheep reached £188 for a Texel cross ram from 1 Airdens, Bonar Bridge.

Six bullocks sold to 300p or £1965 for a 655kg Charolais cross from Shoreton Farms, Culbokie and the five heifers peaked at 302p for a 630kg Charolais cross or £1912.60 for a 655kg Charolais cross from Groam, Kirkhill.

On Tuesday, 1642 sheep sold through Wallets Marts saw 1204 lambs average 290p per kg, selling to 320p for Texels from Messrs McCulloch, Glentoo, or £156.50 for Suffolks from Messrs Goddard, West Logan and Texels from Messrs McMurray, Lagg Farm.
