Shearling rams proved popular at the English National Texel sale at Worcester, attracting the top prices and the lead average.

Sale leader at 24,000gns was Caereinion Gladiator from Cefin Pryce and family, Welshpool, a son of the £10,000 Loosebeare Chief, out of a dam by Blaencar Bandit. He sold to the Ellis family of the Cressage and Scholars flocks.

Second top price was 11,000gns paid for Peacehay Greatest Showman from the Chave family, Somerset. Sired by Clarks Wizard and out a Peacehay Untouchable-sired dam, he was knocked down to Llion Jones of the Pant flock, Tywyn.

The same home took 5000gns for Peacehay Gangnam Style, the champion from the pre-sale show. He is a son of Usk Vale Fandabidozi out of a Clarks Wizard daughter and headed home to Aberystwyth with the Williams family for their Caron flock.

Kelso-based Eve Hodge received 4800gns for Greenarch Good God, a son of Fimber Elysium. The Jones family, Pentraeth, Anglesey, forked out the cash for this big lad.

John Elliot, Kelso then took 4400gns for Mershott Geezer, a Walston Clansman son, purchased by EH Hughes and Son, Llandidrod Wells.

Robert Laird, Cambwell, Biggar, topped the lamb trade with a 7000gns sale for Cambwell Hulk. This second prize Deveronvale Fastrac-sired lamb is out of a dam by Waen Déjà Vu, and sold to Tomos Adams for the Ty-Medi flock, Cowbridge.

Cambwell also bought the second top priced lamb at 6000gns. This was the reserve champion at the pre-sale show, Overburns Highland Spring from Keith and Andrew Campbell, Biggar. He is sired by the 42,000gns Ettrick Grey Goose and out of a dam by Sportsmans Dirty Harry.

Midlock Hardman from Karen Wight, Crawford, made 4500gns selling to Peter and James Vaughan for the Kingspark flock, Leominster. He is by Midlock Fury and out of a dam by Hexel Django.

An entry from John and Archie MacGregor, Allanfauld, Kilsyth topped the gimmers at 4500gns. Their Mossknowe Focus-sired gimmer, is out of a Procters Chumba Wumba-sired dam and sold to Tom Ayrton for the Ayrtons flock, Lancaster.

The female champion, an Auldhouseburn Freaky Friday daughter from David Dunlop, Holtridge, made 4200gns. The buyers were Dave and Helen Smith of the Tockington flock, Bristol.

Gordon Gray’s reserve female by Mossknowe Focus, from Ettrick, Selkirk, made 3500gns selling to Jordon Green for the Drumburn flock, Aberdeenshire.
