The first of the early breeding sheep sales got off to a flying start at Longtown on Tuesday, where trade peaked at £250 for Mule gimmers from Aberdeenshire producers, David and William Moir, Cairness, Home Farm.
The sale of 1082 breeding sheep also saw Northumberland-bred Mule gimmers from Moir Livestock sell at £228 and £220, with one and two-crop Mules from the same home selling to £228 and three and four-crops to £212 on two occasions.
Texel gimmers sold to £235 for entries out of Cheviot Mule ewes from R Smith, Glenzier Farming, Canonbie, who also topped the English Mule section at £208 and and the Cheviot Mules at £205. Glenzier Farming averages were up £25 per head on the year.
The sale also saw 6075 store lambs sell to a top of £148 for Texel cross ewe lambs from MJ Irving, Braehead Farm, with a pen of 111 Suffolk crosses from LM Laing, Tarrasfoot, selling £135.
