The top two winners at the pre-sale show went on to secure the lead prices at Jacob Sheep Society’s Scottish regional sale at Carlisle, when selling at 3500gns and 1600gns.
The overall champion, Beiliau Churchill, a shearling ram from Lyndon Trumper and family, Brynderi, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, was also reserve male champion at the Royal Three Counties Show this year. Sired by Kingarrow Hulk and out of Lower Argoed, he found a new home with Messrs Wood, Bardsea, Ulverston, Cumbria.
The reserve champion, Hope Roar, from Wyn and Siwan Harries, Wenant, Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, later realised 1600gns when selling back down to Wales with Messrs Edmunds, Llandinam, Powys. This January-born ram lamb is a son of Hope Rory and out of a home-bred ewe by Pike Field Braveheart.

The same home sold the lead priced female at 1000gns – a January-born ewe lamb. A daughter of Hope Lion Man, she is out of a Hope Rocky Boy sired-ewe, and sold up to Banffshire with Messrs Forsyth, Craigellachie, Aberlour.
Lanarkshire breeder, Helen Baillie, Rowanbank, Yieldshields, Carluke, sold a March-born tup lamb for 1000gns to Ewen Macmillan, Fintry, Glasgow. Hyndshaw Hunter is sired by Dun-mor Futter and out of a Dun-mor Ace daughter.

Averages: three aged ewes, £203 (+£31.17 for four less sold); 30 gimmers, £266.70 (-£11.86 for two less); 42 ewe lambs, £247.25 (+£10.22 for five more); 18 ram lambs, £543.08a (-£85.17 for five more).
