A South Country Cheviot female record of 2200gns was achieved for a gimmer from James Cochrane shepherd at Castle Crawford, at a Society show and sale of breeding females at Longtown.
The gimmer is by Castle Hitman and out of last year’s Longtown sale leader. She sold in lamb to GDM Dundee and found a new home with Ewen Macmillan, Lurg and Townhead, Stirling.
The same home also sold a Castle Go-Getter in-lamb gimmer at 1000gns to J Anderson-Roskell, Raggiewhaite.
Judge, Gordon Jackson of Blackburn, found his champion in a one-crop ewe from Norman and David Douglas, Catslackburn, Yarrow. She made 1900gns when selling to J Pugh and Partners, Ty Talgarth, Mid Glamorgan, who got for their money a daughter of the £12,000 Catslack Halo which sold in lamb to the £10,000 Crossdykes Champion bought last year at Lockerbie.
Another gimmer from the same home, in lamb to the £12,000 Tweedshaws made 1000gns when selling to William Nixon, Cooms.
Craig and Stuart Weir, Mainside, Hownam, received 1200gns for a two-crop ewe by Castle Assasin. She sold in lamb to Catslack Weir’s Wonder and was purchased by Lorraine Leuscher, Glendinning, Westerkirk.
Next best at 1000gns was a three-crop ewe, by Becks On Top, from Tom Elliot, Hindhope, which was knocked down to Messrs Pugh, Gilar-Wen, Harlech.
A strong trade throughout saw ewes average £845 (+£224 on the year) with gimmers cashing in at £868 (+£388).
