Pedigree females met a buoyant demand at the second Suffolk Supreme sale at Lanark, which saw more sold on the year, a top price of 1900gns and an 87% clearance.

Topping the trade was a ewe lamb from John Gibb’s Cairnton flock from Fraserburgh, purchased by Northern Ireland breeder, Robert Barkley of the Blackbrae flock, Dunloy, Ballymena.

Full sister to the reserve champion ewe lamb at the Scottish National in July, this Bridgeview Balvenie daughter, is out of a home-bred ewe by Millhouse Remarkable.

Her grand-dam also bred last year’s 75,000gns Cairnton Chaos. Mr Gibb’s second ewe lamb, by Frongoy Firepower and out of a ewe by Cairness Agent, made 1600gns selling to Katie Bachelor, Stoney Raikes, Briercliffe, Burnley.

The second top price was 1800gns paid for a gimmer from James Scott’s Strathview flock from Forfar.

She is a daughter of Bridgeview Bill, bred from a home-bred ewe by Strathbeg Allan and sold carrying a pair of lambs to Forkins Faultless to the Rigfoot flock of E Robertson, Mid Linthills, Lochwinnoch.

At 1600gns, Stirling-based breeder, John Christie, Westcarse, sold a gimmer daughter of Muirton Double Diamond, carrying a single to the retained sire, Westcarse Immaculate – a Collessie Diamond Cut-sired son bred from Mr Christie’s reserve overall champion at the Highland Show, a home-bred ewe by Ballyboe Boe.

The buyers were Messrs Henderson, North Inchmichael, Errol, Perth.

The top price for Jimmy Douglas’ Cairness flock from Fraserburgh was 1200gns paid for a Cairness McCoy-sired gimmer carrying twin lambs by the Cairton Ninety Nine. She also sold to the Rigfoot flock.

Cairness also took 1100gns for a gimmer from Messrs Duckworth, Floors Farming, Kilmaurs, Kilmarnock. Her sire is Cairness Mike Tyson and she also sold due with a pair to Ninety Nine.

Aged ewes peaked at 1100gns for Stewart Craft’s 2016-born Lakeview entry from Glenrothes, purchased by Northern Ireland breeders, Messrs Garland of the Aghafad flock, Co Tyrone.

A former Highland Show champion in 2019, she is by Solwaybank Major and sold scanned for a single lamb.
