Aberdeenshire breeder, Stuart Wood, Woolhillock, Skene, not only produced the top price of 5600gns at Harrison and Hetherington’s sale of Dutch Texels, but also secured the champion and reserve honours at the pre-sale show.
Sale leader was the shearling, Woodies Texels Earthquake, which is from the first crop of sons by the 5600gns Thacka Cruyff and out of one of the flock’s foundation ewes. Second in his class at the pre-sale show, he was knocked down to Messrs Taylor, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.
Another by the same sire, Woodies Texels Extreme stood reserve champion and later realised 3400gns when leaving the ring with Messrs Knight, Seascale, Cumbria.
The same home sold the top priced female, which the section champion.
Another bred the same way this gimmer found a new home with Messrs Davis, Lancaster, Lancashire, at 1500gns.
Outwith Mr Wood’s entries, prices peaked at 2600gns for Thacka Endeavour from G Pyman of the Thacka flock, Stainton, Penrith.
His shearling ram is a son of Rathbone Champion, out of a ewe by A Class Act and was knocked down to Messrs Carr, Hexham.
