A 160,000gns lead bid, another two six-figure prices and no fewer than 16 selling at five-figures added to a record breaking average at the Scottish National show and sale of pedigree Texel ram lambs at Lanark.
Topping the trade was the Welsh-bred lamb, Rhaeadr First Choice from Myfyr Evans' flock from Denbighshire, which sold in a three-way split to Neil and Stuart Barclay, Harestone, Insch; Charlie Boden of the Sportsmans flock from Stockport and James Theyer, of the Clanfield flock from Oxfordshire. For their money, they get a son of the 48,000gns Sportmans Dare Devil out of a ewe by Teiglum Younggun. Mr Evans also received 26,000gns and 12,000gns, with his pen of five averaging £44,205.
Rhaeadr genetics were also behind two of the next three highest priced lambs at 130,000gns and 70,000gns, from Jack Arnott and his father Tom, Haymount, Kelso. Their pen of seven, all by the 24,000gns Rhaeadr Entrepreneur, averaged £34,875.00, with the dearest, Haymount Fan Dabi Dozi, selling to Sportsmans; Hugh and Alan Blackwood, Auldhouseburn, Muirkirk and John Forsyth, buying for his Glenside flock from Maybole.
The Arnott's No 2, Haymount First Class, then made 70,000gns selling to Robin Orr and his daughter Caroline for the Halbeath flock from Dunfermline and Danny Hair, Drumbreddan, Stranraer.
John Forsyth was also back in the money, achieving a personal best when Glenside Forever, a son of the 7000gns Seaforde Empire King, made 100,000gns. He sold in a three-way split to Welsh breeders, Will Davies and Paul Rowlands of the Usk Vale flock and Herefordshire breeders, Nick Legge, Thomby, and Vaughan Farms' Kingspark.
Next in the bidding stakes, Alan Clark, North Garngour, sold Garngour First Class for 52,000gns to Jeff Teward and son Stephen of the New View flock from Darlington. He is by Claybury Dunkirk.
Other top sellers included Mrs Karen Wight's Midlock Foo Fighter which made 42,000gns; Donald and Ross Macpherson, Berwick upon Tweed, sold Hexel Four Square for 32,000gns and Myfyr Evans' Rhaeadr Field Margin, and Charlotte and James Nicolson's Knockem Ferocious made 26,000gns each.
Just behind on 25,000gns, Charlie Boden sold Sportsmans First Class; while David Houghton's Tophill Freestyle made 24,000gns.
Rob Bennett's Plasucha Fireball, realised 22,000gns and Auldhouseburn took 20,000gns for Auldhouseburn Fandabidozi.
Overall, 263 ram lambs averaged a record breaking £4889.53 with an 82% clearance. This compares to last year's sale when 290 lambs averaged £3818.20.
