Former chief executive of the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society, Barrie Turner, has been appointed CEO designate of the Suffolk Sheep Society.
Mr Turner from North Lincolnshire who starts his new position in August, will take over from Robin McIlrath, when he retires at the end of 2022.
“This is a really exciting role at a crucial time for agriculture in general and the sheep industry in particular. The Suffolk Sheep Society is one of the oldest pedigree breed societies in the world and represents a breed that is still relevant today as the leading British terminal sire,” said Mr Turner who is fully aware of the mechanics and workings of a leading pedigree society.
He has a wealth of experience in the agri-sector and the pedigree livestock world including four years as CEO of the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society. Mr Turner said he is looking forward to engaging with the membership and addressing their needs and wants for the Suffolk sheep breed.

Suffolk Sheep Society chairman, Michael Weaver, said: “We are delighted to welcome Barrie to the society and the experience he will be bringing to the role. We look forward to working with him as we continue to build on the strong position Suffolks have in the industry.”
Although Mr Turner does not officially take up his new post until August he plans to attend some of the society events in July.
