Welsh wizard, Dewi Jenkins sold the top priced lot at 8100gns at Skipton Auction Mart's field-run sale of working sheep dogs sale, last week.
Mr Jenkins, of Talybont, near Aberystwyth, sold his 18-month-old black and white bitch, Aran Kate, a daughter of his own main stud dog Jock, which bred two dogs at 8500gns the previous weekend at Bala. Kate is out of Alun Jones' Rosewood Meg, and sold to an undisclosed Scottish buyer.
Inverness-shire-based John Macinness (79), Westford, Alness, sold the second highest priced dog at 6100gns to another undisclosed Scottish contract shepherd from the same area. Selling at this price was the January, 2020-born brown and white bitch, Vhairi, by Upland Moss, out of Liz, from Derwent’s JD Wood.
Shaun Richards, who runs Pen-y-Borough Sheep Dogs, Eldroth, sold two bitches and another on behalf of his wife Sue, with the trio netting £14,595.
First up at 4900gns was his main work dog, Ora, a four-year-old black and white bitch by the home-bred Vic. Out of a well-proven dam, Rita, Ora sold to Granville Fairburn, Apperley Bridge, West Yorkshire.
Mrs Richards’ two-year-old black and white bitch, Nell, a daughter of Hemp, from Shap’s Richard Harrison, out of North Craven-based David Farraday’s Tiny, then made 4600gns, to Geraint Evans, Powys.
Just behind, on 4400gns, K Taylor and Sons, Killin, bought Mr Richards' third dog, Liz, an October 2020-born black and white bitch out of Shaun’s own Pen-y-Borough Whizz, out of Dean Addison’s Elan Valley Roy.
Another selling up to Perthshire with Bruce Flockhart at 4200gns was Arran Games' rising two-year-old black and white Bryn, by Caefelin Clem.
Mr Games also sold an unbroken 11-month-old black and white dog pup, Glen, for 1100gns to Janice Sutherland, from Sutherland.
The sale attracted a total entry of 44 dogs, with a solid clearance rate achieved with broken, registered dogs selling from 1200gns-4200gns to average £3115; registered bitches from 2200gns-8100gns to average £4467. Pups/part and unbroken saw registered dogs sell from 100gns-800gns, to average £497, with registered bitches from 400gns-800gns, average £595.
