A good ringside of buyers forward for the June sale of pedigree Beef Shorthorns at Longtown, saw prices peak at 2800gns for bulls and females.
The sole in-calf heifer, Bradhill Butterfly 3, a red and white polled entry from Steve Swales Dairy, Cliviger, Burnley, was first to make that money. A daughter of Meonhill Fire Fox, out of a Pikelowe Legend daughter, she changed hands due to Napoleon of Upsall, when selling to Messrs Armour, Bowston Hall, Burneside.
Cows with calves at foot reached 2000gns for Westbroad Joyful Roxy and her bull calf, from Rachel Jordan, Annaghanoon, Co Armagh and 1900gns for Gradi Irania 237, also with a bull calf at foot, from Steve Swales Dairy Ltd.
Just behind, on 1800gns P and J Bailey, Appleby, sold the white cows, Newfield Mistletoe Nonpareil and Roadway Holly, with white calves at foot, for 1800gns each.
James Irving's organic Overwater herd from Uldale, Wigton, topped the maiden heifers at 1400gns for Overwater Loopy Lou.
Cows and heifers with calves or in calf averaged £2163 while maiden heifers levelled at £1224.
Bulls also reached 2800gns for Harrietsfield Seamus, a roan from KG Anderson, Rowanburnfoot, Canonbie. A son of Farlam Loneranger and out of a home-bred Glengloy Dollar-sired cow, he sold to the Archbank Farming Co, Moffat.
Another all Scottish transaction saw Charlie Fletcher and Jack Kay, Blackcleugh, Eaglesfield, take 2500gns for Redstones Sovereign, a Chapelton Pioneer son purchased by Messrs Cooper, Crailloch, Wigtownshire.
The annual consignment of 10 Shorthorn cross Galloway heifers with Angus cross calves at foot from R and M McIntosh, Borthwickshiels, Newcastleton, averaged £2135, selling to £2550 and £2400.
The entry of seven young Belted Galloway heifers from Anna Coulthard, Castlefield, Ivegill, reached 1300gns and 1100gns, while Belted Galloway cows with calves reached £1080 from Mains of Machermore, and Stabiliser heifers from sold to £1020 from West Hall.
