A British Blue heifer from I Powley, Green Marsh, Carlisle, was awarded the overall championship and sold for the top price of £3100 at Mitchells' Auction Mart's January show and sale of store cattle at Cockermouth
Judges father and son team Matthew and Harry Brown, Carnaby, found their reserve in a Limousin steer from S Hardisty and Son, How Hall, Ennerdale, which made £2100.
The sale of 1071 cattle saw 11-month-old heifers sell for £2350 from RW and JH Emmott, Wythop Hall, with strong heifers to £2080 from TW West, Pickett Howe.
Forward steers peaked at £2070 from G and T Tyson, East House, while young bulls were topped at £2000 from WG and D Wilkinson, Brookfield.
Overall averages also improved on the year with steers up £186; heifers rising £127 and bulls showing an increase of £147 per head.
