Hexham
Some 240 head was forward for Hexham and Northern Marts’ final store cattle sale which included 120 Aberdeen Angus, South Devon and Highlanders.
Topping the trade at £1880 was an Angus cross bullock from Cornsay-based breeder John Carpenter, Rare Dene.
This was followed at £1860 by the lead continental, a Limousin steer from Slaley cattleman and mart ringman, Alan Ogle, Comb Hills.
Brian and Angus Tailford, Beacon Rigg, Langley, sold Simmental bullocks at £1850 and Limousins at £1840 to average £1744 for five steers.
Heifers sold to £1760 for a Limousin from the Forsters of Lowes Fell, Lowgate who also sold steers by the same sire at £1780 and £1770.
Peter Findlay, Stoop Rigg, Simonburn sold 17-18-month-old Angus steers and heifers at £1480 and £1450 respectively.
The annual consignment of 50, 15-18-month-old Angus and Simmental cross steers from Sandy and Andrew Ord, Newton Greens peaked at £1690 and £1780 respectively to average £1504.
Three-quarter and seven-eighth Limousin crosses from Waltons of Greyside were also in demand with their 13-14-old entries selling to £1700 for steers and £1570 for heifers. Their 10 steers and 11 heifers averaged £1565 and £1472 respectively.
Wigton
The final sale of 2023 through Hope’s Auctioneers, saw 70 head of calves and stirks forward which peaked at £640 for four-month-old British Blue heifers from RG and W Whitfield, Balladoyle Farm who also produced the lead average at £613.33 for six.
Six-month-old dairy-bred Limousins sold to £610 for a bull stirk from Round Hill Farm, Aldoth.
Steers were topped at £540 for an eight-month-old South Devon from Messrs Hughes, Seaville Farm.
Young calves peaked at £420 for a six-week-old British Blue bull from Kate Bailey, Moorhouse Hall Farm, with heifer calves to £330 for another six-week-old Blue from the same home.
Bulls averaged £415.63, with heifers at £413.71 and steers, £442.50.
The final store lamb sale of the year peaked at £138 for a single Beltex from MA and J Thompson, High Hall. Top average was £119.68 for 53 Beltex from J Oliver and Sons, Walton Wood Head.

Carlisle
A plainer show of cattle forward for the last sale of the year saw increased demand with a top price of £1830 paid for Limousin bullocks from Messrs McColm and Brewis, Awhirk Farm.
Heifers peaked at £1370 for a British Blue from Messrs Byers, Gimmenbie.
Weaned cattle were topped at £1450 by a pair of Limousin bulls from Messrs Hughes, Dona Close with bullocks to £1400 from the same home.
Weaned heifers reached £1300 for a Simmental from Messrs Goldsbrough, Oakrigg Farm, Moffat.
The 243 calves met a roaring trade with a top price of £570 paid for British Blue bull calf from Bowe Dairy Farming Co, Chalk Lodge, Cumdivock. Heifers reached £460 for a British Blue from HJ Walker and Co.
