Averages dropped a massive £650 at the 35th Border and Lakeland Bull sale at Carlisle, on Monday, where trade reached a high of 7500gns for the pre-sale champion.
Both Holstein and Friesian types fell on the year, with a Holstein from local breeders, Kevin and Christine Wilson and family's Warnelview herd from Wood Farm, Thursby, Carlisle, topping the sale.
Their Warnelview Nautical a yearling bull which was tapped out as the pre-sale champion by Brian Davidson owner of the Errolston herd, is by Lindenright Apps and bred from the Ex97 classified dam, Warnelview Seaver Nita. He was knocked down to Messrs Kellett and Sons, Slaley, Hexham.

Another from the same home, Warnelview Zodiac, made 4500gns when the hammer fell to Messrs Grigg, Monkleigh, Bideford, Devon. This October 2022-born Holstein is a son of S-S-I PR Renegade and bred from seven generations of Ex-classified cows going back to Ocean-View Mandel Zandra EX95.
Top price for the Wilson family's Northshields Holstein herd from Carskerdo, Cupar, was 4500gns for the August 2022-born, Northshields Bute, purchased by Messrs Falshaw, Bury, Lancashire. He is by Warnelview Ellis and bred from six generations Ex dams, being bred from Northshields Fever Eve.
Leading the British Friesian section at 6000gns was an entry from Ian and Tom Blamire's Whinnow herd from Thursby, Carlisle. Their December 2021-born, Whinnow Microwave is by Beaufort Milkman and bred from Skyhigh Osbert Pauline, which gave more than 12,500kgs as a five-year-old. He was purchased by local breeders, Messrs Moscrop, Irthington.

Richard Bell, Nerewater, Saltcoats, Wigton, received 4000gns for Nerewater Reliant Lawrence from Messrs Dykes, Eaglesham, Glasgow. This 21-month-old bull is by Nerewater Reliant and bred from Nerewater Laura 3.
Another the same way bred, Nerewater Landlord realised 3800gns when selling to Messrs Ward and Son, Slyne, Lancaster, Lancashire.
