Tidy Dancer, a Scottish-bred in-calf Limousin heifer sold for a record £23,000 at the Jalex Select on-farm sale of 200 commercial heifers from James and Nelson Alexander, Randalstown, Northern Ireland.
The three-year-old commercial heifer bred by Hugh Dunlop, Holehouse, and bought at the 2021 Welsh Winter Fair after standing reserve champion, is by Wilodge LJ. The dam is a former Powerhouse Elite cross British Blue show heifer. She sold in calf to either Norman Ely or the stock bull Knockroghery Scat Daddyhe, to Fergal McMullan, Newtown Glen Farm, Cushendall, after being flushed three times.
Also heading home with Mr McMullan at £7500 was a 37-month-old British Blue cross Limousin heifer carrying a male calf by Corcamore Romeo due in October.
The 740kg, 17-month-old maiden heifer, BFF, a three-quarter British Blue cross Charolais, cross Limousin sold for the second top price of £12,500 when selling to Ivan Lynn and Sons, Armoy. She was bred by Anthony Dolan, Kilcadden, Donegal.
The same buyers also went to £8500 for the previous lot, Tank, a January 2020-born Limousin cross heifer by Trueman Idol, which sold due in August with a heifer calf to Norman Ely. Bred by John Wigham, Hargill House, Haltwhistle, she also changed hands having been flushed.
Making £8000 to Jonathan Black, Wakefield, West Yorkshire, was the February 2021-born Limousin cross British Blue heifer, Skunk. She sold due in October and carrying a heifer calf to Romeo.
Lead Scottish buyer was Gordon Cameron, Acharacle, Fort William, who went to £6000 and £4200 for in-calf entries. The former, a January 2021-born British Blue cross, sold due in October with a heifer calf to Ampertaine Prescott, while the latter, a two-year-old Limousin cross changed hands due in September with a heifer calf by Elderberry Galahad.
Prices ranged from £2200 to £23,000 to average £3436.
