Increasing demand for store cattle saw averages at Harrison and Hetherington’s opening show and sale of the year at Middleton and Teasdale, rise on the fortnight with steers up £20 to level at £1107.95 and heifers up £50 to £1032.53.
The show of cattle which were mostly eight to nine months of age, was topped at £1500 by the champion, a Limousin cross steer from MW and E Dent, Wythes Hill, with the reserve, the second prize entry to the champion from W and A Bainbridge, Laneside, selling for £1400.
