A major reduction sale of Limousin females from two herds coupled with guest consignments from another three, was topped at 10,000gns by a cow and calf from John Vance and Son's Winnington enterprise from Shropshire.
The sale, staged at Welshpool, was led by the seven-year-old cow, Winnington Lupine, a Tunelby Hardy daughter, bred from the Hafodlas Llion-sired Winnington Aurora. She sold with her fourth calf at foot, an April-born bull, by Sibbersfield Pagan, to Messrs Whitfield, Derrington, Staffordshire.
The same home also produced Winnington Nadine, which sold for 6500gns alongside her similarly aged Mereside Hallmark-sired bull calf. Nadine, a five-year-old by the French sire, Titanic is out of the Ronick Hawk daughter, Winnington Hemp. The buyer were G Watkins, Craswell, Herefordshire.
Bedfordshire breeders, HG Sharman and Son, Colnworth, then went to 4000gns for Winnington Madam, a six-year-old Millstone Galopin daughter, with Hallmark-sired April-born heifer calf at foot.
Richard Harris' Saltbrook herd from Alkmonton, Ashbourne, peaked at 6000gns twice. First to sell at this money was the four-year-old Saltbrook Olivia, a four-year-old that sold with heifer calf, Saltbrook Spraggy, by Grahams Nashville at foot. Welsh breeders, TD and MJ Orrells and Son, Middle Llegodig, Abermule, forked out the cash for this Gerrygullinane Glen-sired cow out of a home-bred Lawf Victory daughter.
Irish breeder, K McCrory, 6 Mile Cross, Co Tyrone, bought the second 6000gns outfit, Wilodge Mistress, a six-year-old ET-bred cow bred from the top breeding cow, Wilodge Diamante, and sired by Objat. Bred by Christine Williams, Mistress sold with her seven-month-old bull calf by Grahams Nashville, at foot. Some 19 embryos have been collected from Mistress.
