A 100% clearance rate was achieved at a Charolais breed society sale at Welshpool, where 38 bulls cashed in at £5670, up £1251 on the year.
Sale leader at 9000gns was Teme Skyfall from the Corbett family of Knighton, Powys. This 15-month-old is sired by the 70,000gns Barnsford Ferny, and his dam is Teme Opaque, a Goldstar Gentleman daughter. Unshown at the pre-sale show as Thomas Corbett was judging, he sold to Andrew Gale, Newtown Abbot, Devon.
Mr Corbett found his reserve champion in Maerdy Slater which went on to make 8500gns for Esmor Evans of Mold, Flintshire. This 14-month-old is a son of Goldies Linford – a bull that stood reserve champion at Stirling in 2016 – out of Maerdy Gips. He stays in Wales with MPB Ashton and Son of Welshpool, Powys.
The champion, Graiggoch Samuel realised 7800gns for Gerwyn Jones of Llanrwst, Clwyd. Another by Goldstar Gentleman, he is out of Graiggoch Lassie, which goes back to Blelack Digger, and found a new home in Llanbrynmair, Powys, with TT Jones and Co.
Next best at 7500gns was the 16-month-old, Nuthampstead Richmond from David and Louise Barker in Nuthampstead, Hertfordshire. Sired by the French bull Idol, he is out of the Rosanna Jupiter daughter, Nuthampstead Oona and was knocked down to A and T Richardson and Son of Ashbourne, Derbyshire.
Five bulls sold for 7000gns to include Seawell Rangerover, from Peter Donger, Towcester, Northamptonshire. He is by Balthayock Jonathan and was another to sell to Andrew Gale.
Beanhill Rolo a 19-month-old bull from James and Belinda Kimber of Chippenham, made the same money He is by Balthayock Musketeer, whilst his dam, Beanhill Mary goes back to Alwent Goldbar. Rolo travels to Hereford with JP Herdman of Clyro.
Sportsmans Romeo was the third bull to hit 7000gns for the Boden and Davies team, Mellor, Stockport, when selling to RF Jones, South Molton, Devon. This 19-month-old is a son of the 40,000gns Maerdy Newman, out of Sportsmans Jade, a Barnsford Ferny daughter.
A duo by Balthayock Musketeer from Messrs Roberts and Jones of Welshpool, Powys also reached 7000gns. First was the 17-month-old, Montgomery Rolly, bred from a home-bred Gretnahouse Jugular-sired cow. He sold to WJ and B Lewis of Pennant, Llanon.
On the same money was the 16-month-old Montgomery Rowan, bred from another Gretnahouse Jugular daughter. He caught the eye of Edgar Williams, Pontllyfni, Caernarfon.
