Some 558 cattle, 126 calves and 1212 sheep were forward for Darlington Farmers Auction Mart’s Christmas shows and sales of store cattle and rearing calves.
Judge Andrew Dyson of Gebdykes, Masham found his champion in a 20-month-old heifer from young first-time consignor, Jack Sewell, Knavesmire, Hamsterley, which sold for the top price of £2120 to D Holgate, Wakefield.
Reserve was a nine-month-old Limousin steer from P and K Brannen, Scar Top, Penrith, that made £1740 to NE Dyson, Masham.
Stephen Harrison, Grange-Over-Sands, selected the winners in the rearing calves and found his supreme in an August-born British Blue bull calf from the Wilkinson family of Carrsides Farm, who also took the reserve with a September-born Simmental bull.
The two calves sold for £610 and £615 respectively, with both purchased by D Holgate, Wakefield. The 126 calves sold to 20 active ringside buyers to average £302.58 with a 100% clearance.
Cast cattle sold to £2618 for a bull from RJ and R Greenbank.
