A GOOD show of quality cattle forward for the November Border and Lakeland Holstein Club Sale at Carlisle saw prices peak at 4000gns on two occasions and milking heifers average £2482.

First to hit the 4000gns mark was the unshown Berryholme Davinci Flo, purchased by Messrs Coulthurst from Preston. Flo was consigned by the Wright family, Lancashire, she is out of the VG88-4yr Berryholme Jacoby Flo by Cycle Doorman Jacoby, and goes back to two National Show champions. She was sired by Davinci.

Berryholme sold another three heifers to average £3083.

Scott Forsyth of Baltier Farming, Newton Stewart, bought the second 4000gns heifer, Feizor Fuel C Dandy, from the Booth family from Old Hall Farm in Lancashire. Bred from no fewer than 10 generations of Ex or VG cows, her grand dam is Feizor Solomon S Dandy Ex92 SP 3, while her sire is Melarry Fuel.

Baltier also went to 3600gns for the first prize junior heifer in milk, Feizor Lambda A Kandie, from the same home.

Her fourth dam was the 2014 unanimous All American Red and White five-year-old, Luck-E Advent Kandie Red Ex95 20* – a Lambda daughter out of Feizor Apple Crisp A Kandie GP83.

Feizor had a great trade, selling five heifers for £3491. They also took 3200gns from Messrs Graham, Blairdrummond, Stirling, for the fresh heifer Feizor Davinci C Flo, which goes back to the sale cow family as the Wrights’ 4000gns heifer. She is sired by Davinci and out of the Ex92 SP cow, Feizor Chief D Flo.

Another with a big pedigree, Bridgedale Ranger Snapple Red, from John Greenop from Wigton, made 3200gns. A daughter of 3Star Oh Ranger Red, out of Lillyhall Luster Snapple Poc VG86-3yr, her fourth dam is the 2020 grand champion North American open winner, Miss Apple Snapple Ex96. The buyers were Messrs Manning, Etsill, Minsterley.

Top price for the Logans’ Holehouse herd from Kilbirnie was 3000gns paid by Messrs Muir, Glenluce, Stranraer, for Holehouse Sil Angel, a September-calved heifer by Liway Sil out of the big production cow, Holehouse Shottle Angel Ex90-5yr SP LP60.

Judge Jim Johnstone, Glenrigg, Falkirk, found his champion in Robert Steel’s Kepculloch Lambda Trethelma from Kepculloch, Balfron. She went on to sell for 2600gns to the Marshall family from Hardgrove, Dumfries.
