Beltex from the Allan family at Glenturk, led Craig Wilson's sale of 778 prime lambs at £165 and 341p per kg, having averaged 301.7p per kg.

Cast sheep sold to £166 for Zwartbles from R Torbert, Whitecrook.


Dumfries

An overall average of 311.7p per kg was achieved at C and D auction Marts' prime lamb sale.

Lambs sold to £180 from TS Farming, Rigghead and to 364p from C Rae, Wallacetown.

Texels from C Halliday, Newton Bungalow, topped the cast ewes and rams at £244.


Thainstone

Beltex secured the top prices at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of 1794 new season prime lambs, having sold to 352p per kg for a 41kg entry from Milton of Finnercy, Echt and to £176 for 56kg Beltex from Southbank, Skene, to average 307p (+14p).

Feeding ewes and rams (534) cashed in at £106.23 having peaked at £239.50 for Texels from Uppermill, Tarves.

On the cattle front 41 prime cattle sold to 334p per kg for a 600kg Limousin cross bullock from Hilton of Culsh, New Deer and to £2410.80 for an 820kg Simmental cross bullock from Hilton of Culsh, New Deer.

Heifers peaked at 329p for a 595kg Limousin cross from Chapel of Barras, Stonehaven and to £2223.60 for a 680kg Charolais cross from Auchmaliddie Mains, Maud.

Young bulls (13) sold to 337p for a 665kg Limousin cross from Hillocks, Whiterashes and to £2244 for an 850kg Aberdeen Angus from Birkenbower, Lumsden.

Stirling UA

United Auctions sold 7321 prime sheep comprising of 5246 prime lambs selling to an average of 305.95p per kg and 2068 ewes and rams.

Beltex led the proceedings at £186 from Blairmore and Mid Derry, and to 400p from Groan.

Suffolk led both the ewes and rams at £218 from North Mains of Baldovan, and to £195 from Townhead, respectively.


Ayr

A smaller number of 1510 prime lambs was forward to average 311p per kg £143 at Craig Wilson's sale.

A top price of £186 was paid for a Texel from Messrs Young, Castle Mains, and to 350p for Charollais crosses off Messrs Fisher, Lagg.

Cast ewes peaked at £268 on two occasions, firstly for a Beltex from J and L Cousar, Howcommon, and for a Texel ewe from JM Thomson and Son, Blairbowie.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 153 prime and cast cattle, where 21 heifers averaged 326.49p.

Limousin heifers led the proceedings at 356p for the Smith family at North Boig, and to £2105.40 for Messrs Fisher, Merrick.

Bullocks peaked at 340p or £2074 for a Limousin from North Boig.


Lanark

Limousins dominated all sections at Lawrie and Symington's prime cattle sale, with heifers leading the way at 480p per kg and £2755 from Cassindilly.

Bullocks sold to 350p from Hill Farm, Strathaven, and to £2407 from Mid Shawtonhill.

A smaller show of 3184 prime lambs topped at £186 for Texels from Sandford Sheep and to 385p from Carstairs Mains, to cash in at 323.9p.

The 1170 cast ewes and rams reached £350 for Texels from Hartside, to balance out at £120.07.


Stirling (Cally)

Prime lambs were sharper on the week with an SQQ of 307.49ppkg and £141.43 at Caledonian Marts' sale.

Topping at 389p per kg was a Beltex from W S Paterson, Golland, Kinross and to £185 for a Suffolk from J A Robertson, Mid Linthills, Renfrewshire.

Cast ewes attained £315 for a Texel from P G Perring, Hoprig, Cockburnspath.


Castle Douglas

On Tuesday, Wallets Marts held their weekly sale of 3151 prime lambs and cast sheep, where 2421 lambs averaged 311.33p per kg with a SQQ of 312.87p.

Texels secured the top spots at £180 for Messrs Burgess, Maryfield and to 376.1p for Judith Cowie, Copelaw.

Some 730 cast sheep realised £240 for a Texel ram from Messrs Hansell, Nether Barr, with ewes to £205 for more of the same from Messrs Gold, Inglestonford.


Carlisle

The dearest trade of the year was met at Harrison and Hetherington's prime cattle sale, with the whole sale averaging in excess of £2000.

Top overall was a 766kg Limousin cross steer from Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton, selling to £2582.25, whilst a 683kg Limousin steer from Messrs Bell, Hoddamtown, Lockerbie, made 347.50p.

Heifers realised £2407.13 for a 735kg Charolais cross from Messrs Pearson, High Plasketlands, Maryport.

Among the prime lambs it was Beltex that secured the lead prices at £230 and 500p per kg from Crawthat. Matching that top pence per kg price of 500p was a Dutch Texel from Kirtlevale.

Cast ewes peaked at £430 for Texels from Townfoot.
