A BUMPER quality show of prime cattle forward for Caledonian Marts' Christmas show and sale saw the judges, Laura and Sandy Cooper of Coopers Quality Butchers, Bellshill, buy both their choice champion and reserve winners.
They found their supreme in a Limousin cross heifer from Craig and Teen Malone, Pitcairn. It weighed in at 610kg and sold for 410p per kg or £2501.
The reserve, a Limousin bullock from T Paul, Airleywight, Bankfoot, scaled 644kg and later made 350p per kg or £2254.
Overall, 17 prime bullocks averaged 330p per kg or £2116 per head with 44 heifers at 344p or £2072. Four bulls averaged 282p or £2259.
Young bulls sold to 302p per kg for a Limousin from J and J Wylie, Knockhouse, and to £2803 from A Orr, Lomond Muir.
OTMs averaged 189p per kg selling to 232p per kg from R Sim, West Kelt, and to £1900 from Keirsbeath Farms, Mains of Beath, with dairy cows to 164p per kg and £1330 from JK Logan, Hillend.
