Relatively new breeders Andrew Thornber and daughters of the Blackbrook herd, Barkisland, produced the top price of 4200gns at the annual Beef Shorthorn society’s Skipton Sale.
Taking that top price was the maiden heifer, Blackbrook Lancaster Tilly, a roan daughter of Millerston Roly, bred out of the Coldrochie Leif-sired cow Highlee Luscious Ruby. She was knocked down to Thomas Cheetham, Bothamsall.
The same home produced the pre-sale champion in the form of Blackbrook Phantasy which later made 4000gns when selling to Andrew Holgate, Rathmell.

Blackbrook also led the cow and calf section at 3900gns, with the October 2021 roan cow, Blackbrook Waterloo Robyn, which sold with her Perseus of Upsall March-born bull calf, Blackbrook Vulcan.
Robyn is by Muiresk Nevis, out of the VG85 Chapelton Waterloo and with a calf due in April to Crichton Snoop Dogg. The outfit was knocked down to L Driver and Son, Oakenshaw.
Alistair Gibson, Cutthorn herd, Gibside, sold two in-calf heifers for 3500gns each both selling again to Andrew Holgate.
Both were sired by Cairnsmore Phenomenal and scanned in-calf for April next year to Healind Sergeant.
First up was the February-born Cutthorn Camilla’s Te al, followed by the April-born Cutthorn Ruby’s Tempest.
The same home also sold the third prize heifer, Cutthorn Melody’s Tasmin, for 2600gns, again to Andrew Holgate, with this girl being by the same sire.
