Eskdalemuir Forestry Ltd, Eskdalemuir, Langholm, purchased the top-priced Whitebred Shorthorn at the Galloway and Whitebred Shorthorn show and sale at Carlisle.
Sale leader at 5000gns was the reserve male champion Hottbank Usyk from John Pattinson, Hottbank, Bardon Mill, Hexham. This April 2023-born bull is a son of Blackburn Jethro and out of Hottbank Lucy 28th.
The pre-sale champion Glentyne Ava, from G and J Taylor, Low Arvie Farm, Corsock, Castle Douglas, went on to make 3000gns. This in-calf heifer is a daughter of Lochdochart Crusader. Bred from Burnedge Ava B, she is in calf to Glentyne Harold HB12953. She now heads to Newcastleton with Messrs Jackson, Toftholm.
Messrs Elliot, Ewes, Langholm, gave 2000gns for the two-year-old bulling heifer Milnholm Louise, from A and A Hogg and Son, Milnholm, Langholm. Having stood first in her class, she is a daughter of Milnholm Talisman and out of Hole-Of-Lyne Shona 8th.
Top priced among the Galloways at 3200gns came from the reduction sale of the Whitehill herd from WJ Henderson, Whitehill, Corrie, Lockerbie.
Saler leader came in the form of the 2016-born cow, Myrtle 710 of Whitehill, when selling to Messrs Nixon, Nunscleugh, Carlisle. She is sired by Neilman of Whitehill, out of Myrtle 285 of Whitehill, and sold in calf to Trojan of Whitehill. She sold with her May-born heifer calf, Myrtle 1064 of Whitehill, which is by Ben Lomond Tamdhu.
Fiona 752 of Whitehill and her heifer March-born calf, Fiona 1041 of Whitehill, then made 2400gns when the hammer fell to Messrs Moore, Slaggyford, Brampton. The 2017-born cow is a daughter of Everest of Gall-Way, while the calf is by Avicii of Kilnstown.
Messrs Hepburn and Co, Hawick, Roxburghshire, purchased two cow and calf outfits at 2350gns and 2150gns. Both are sired by Everest of Gall-Way, and sold in-calf to Trojan of Whitehill and with their March-born calves again by Avicii.

The dearest of the two was the 2019-born cow, Astrid 821 of Whitehill, with the latter in the form of the 2017-born cow, Clare 739 of Whitehill.
Lady Nancy 637 of Whitehill made 2100gns when selling to Messrs Elliot, Ewes, Langholm. This 2014-born cow is another daughter of Everest of Gall-Way and bred from Lady Nancy 157th of Whitehill. She sold with her March-born heifer calf, Lady Nancy 1037 of Whitehill, which is by Trojan of Whitehill.
The reserve female champion, Nancy 2nd of Haining House from G and C Neve and son, Haining House, Lambley, Brampton, Cumbria, achieved 2200gns. This September 2022-born bulling heifer is a daughter of Gauntlet of Hottbank and out of Lady Nancy 787 of Whitehill. Messrs Worrell, Gretna, took this one home.
Non-pedigree Galloways sold to £2000 for the second prized in-calf heifer from Messrs Kyle of Spoutbank. Final bidders were Messrs Moore, Slaggyford, Brampton.
