A British Blue cross heifer from David Mallon, Pallet Crag, secured the pre-sale championship and the top price of £6500 at Harrison and Hetherington's show and sale of suckled calves at Middleton in Teesdale, on Tuesday.

The calf sold to Haig Murray, Gretna, for further showing.

Judge, James Crichton, bought his choice of reserve, a British Blue cross steer also from Pallet Crag, for £1900

The entry of 427 calves of which 99% were aged six to eight-months, saw an overall average of £1264.17, with bullocks rising £58 per head on the year to average £1284.47 and heifers up £100 to £1236.81.
