Luing cattle breeders met a disappointing trade at their autumn breeding sale at United Auctions, Stirling, where an increased entry saw most averages fall on the year.

Top price was 3200gns paid for a single Sim Luing in-calf heifer from Andrew McNee and family, Woodend, Armadale, purchased by Messrs Thomson, Wester Tulloch, Midmar, Aberdeenshire.

The same buyers bought the second top priced in-calf Sim Luing heifers from Woodend at 2700gns.

In-calf Luing heifers were topped at 2900gns by a pair of polled entries from J Raper, Todholes, Otterburn. Sired by Harehead Texas and due to a homebred bull, they were knocked down to Jamie Gilchrist of Mulholland Contracting, Ettrickshaws, Selkirk.

Luing bulling heifers peaked at 2500gns for a pair from Billy and Andrew Renwick, Blackhouse, purchased by Dalchirla Farms, Crieff. They are sired by Nunnerie Xenon.

Hugh Stewart, Hatton of Newtyle, Blairgowrie, purchased the top priced Sim Luing bulling heifers at 2000gns from Messrs Halligan and Burke, Nether Stewarton, Peebles.

A consignment of B Registered bulling heifers (28), from Dunalastair Estate, Pitlochry, sold to 1550gns.

Averages: Luings – 14 in-calf heifers, £2430 (-£247 for three more sold); 94 bulling heifers, £2032.80 (-£308 for 18 more sold); 11 yearling heifers, £997.50 (+£152.25 for the same number); 28 B register heifers, £1173.

Sim Luings – 25 bulling heifers, £1762.00 (-£217.35 for one more); 39 in-calf heifers, £2533.65 (-£200 for 10 more).
