On Monday, the firm sold 672 store cattle and suckled calves, where bullocks and heifers averaged 297.75p per kg and 285.29p respectively.

Bullocks sold to 404.5p for Limousins from J and J MacInnes, Culbhuirg, Iona, and to £1830 for a Simmental from W and M More, Castle Rednock, Port of Menteith.

Charolais from J and D Mitchell, Offers, Stirling, topped the heifers at 363p, whilst Simmentals from D Gibb, South Mains, Bearsden, made £1820.

A Limousin from M Campbell, Glenstockdale, Stranraer, topped the bull trade at 310p and £1640.

Limousin crosses from Overhall, secured the top prices at United Auctions' store cattle sale where a 390kg bullock made 343.60p per kg and a 408kg heifer realised 365.20p.

Bullocks (515) averaged and sold to £2090 for a 716kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Oatridge, whilst heifers (496) cashed in at 281.53p having reached £1910 for a 640kg Simmental cross from Grantsbank.

Young bulls (10) averaged 254.67p and sold to 282.60p for a 368kg Charolais cross from Cretlevane, and to £1160 for a 456kg Beef Shorthorn cross from Coxhill.

Some 3499 store lambs sold to £121 for Texels from Cluny Est, with the Texels cashing in at £98.80 (+ 0.44p on the week).

All other breed averages dropped on the week with Suffolk at £96.38 (-£5.07), Blackface at £51.88 (- £7.43) and Cheviot and Beltex at £72.59 (- £7.64) and £98.38 (- £8.32) respectively.

On Monday, the firm held their annual show and sale of 2240 suckled calves, which was dominated by Charolais crosses, with bullocks selling to 503.40p for a 285kg entry from Upper Samieston and to £1620 for a 422kg animal from Ardtornish, to average 350.59p.

Heifers cashed in at 330.92p having realised 576.90p for a 312kg Charolais cross from Glenrath and to £1800 for a 312kg heifer from Glenrath.

The show was judged by Logan Ross, Greenhead, who awarded his champion to a 350kg Lincoln Red bullock from Jas McLaren, Murrayshall, which later sold for £1600.

Runner up was a 376kg Limousin heifer from J Cullens, Dollarbank, which made £1650.

Some 598 breeding cattle soared to £6500 for a British Blue cross heifer with heifer calf at foot from Craig and Teen Malone, Pitcairn.

An Aberdeen Angus cross steer from Messrs Ivinson, Whinclose, Wigton, led Harrison and Hetherington's sale of 472 store cattle at £2130.

Heifers sold to £1780 on two occasions, firstly for a Limousin cross from Messrs Pearson, The Faulds, Wigton, and again for an Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Robinson, Rowell.

Messrs Dempster, Castlehill sold two Limousin bulls for £1550 and a Limousin cross bullock at £1490 to top the weaned cattle.

A Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Bulman, Burn House, realised £1460.

Limousin crosses from Messrs Robinson and Partners, Laverock Hall, led the suckled calves at £1450 and £1280 for bullocks and heifers respectively.

The weekly sale of 394 calves reached £680 was a British Blue bull from M and JA Johnston, Petteril Side, Southwaite.

The same breed topped the heifers at £575 for JH Errington, Lowthe Low Moor.

The pre-sale champion, a British Blue cross in-calf heifer from Gordon Carroll, Aucharroch, Kirkton of Kingoldrum, achieved the to price of £4800 at Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of 654 breeding cattle.

The judge, Graham Sutherland, The Antlers, Occumster, purchased the champion pair of Limousin crosses from I and G Urquhart, 65 Pennan Road, Ellon at £3200.

Top price for Simmental heifers was £3200 for a pair, calving February to a Limousin bull from Messrs Watt, New Noth, Gartly.

Breeding bulls sold to 5000gns for a Limousin from Tamala, Burnside.

The sale of store cattle soared to £3200 or £11.85 per kg for a 270kg Limousin heifer from Newton Cottage, Acharacle, where heifers (425) averaged 319.6p.

Bullocks (314) averaged 327.4p and sold to 456.4p for a 298kg Limousin cross from Tamala, Burnside, and to £2110 for a 738kg Limousin from Newton Cottage, Acharacle.

A 486kg Limousin cross from Bank of Gallery, Montrose, led the bull trade at 325.1p and £1580.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 2680 store and breeding sheep including island consignments, where a Texel shearling ram from Tillyorn Corse, Lumphanan, made £550.

Breeding rams (26) averaged £313.26, whilst breeding sheep (174) levelled at £160.48 and sold to £232 for Mule gimmers from Tollo, Fortrie.

Lockerbie

An overall sale average of £1326.18 (+£291.88) was achieved at Harrison and Hetherington's annual sale of Blue Grey in calf heifers, bulling heifers and heifer calves.

The sale topped at £2600 for an in-calf heifer from Messrs Flintoft, Sourhope.

Bulling heifers achieved £1550 on six occasions firstly four from Messrs Telford, Holme Head, with a pair from Messrs Bell, the Bloch, making the same money.

The pre-sale show was judged by David Cornthwaite formally of Balgray Hill, Lockerbie, who awarded the first prize pen of bulling heifers to Messrs Kyle, Spoutbank which later sold to £1400.

Ayr

Charolais bullocks secured the top prices at Craig Wilson's sale of 450 store cattle, having sold to £1840 for Warwick Mains, and to 341p per kg for Coalhill.

Bullocks (199) and heifers (199) levelled at 288.65p and 268.73p respectively.

A Limousin from Overtoun lead the heifers at £1800 and 340p.

An end of season show of breeding sheep reached £200 for Texel gimmers from Rhona McLean, East Barnbrock, with ewes to £115 for Cheviot crosses from Geddes, South Barnbeth.

Some 1205 store lambs realised £116 for Texels from D Ferguson, Farden, Pinwherry.

On Tuesday, the firm sold 10 dairy cattle to a top of £1950 for a fresh calved Ayrshire heifer from Messrs Chalmers, Muirlaught.

A large show of 171 calves and stirks reached £1520 for a Simmental cross heifer off Messrs MacDougall, Muirhouse, whilst bullocks peaked at £1160 for an Aberdeen Angus cross from Messrs Hose, Maryport.

British Blue crosses led the calf trade at £590 for a bull from Messrs Craig, Tannockhill, and to £450 for heifers from Messrs Cochrane, Nether Craig.
