Hexham and Northern Marts’ sale of 543 store cattle and suckled calves included the annual Tow Law show and sale, which saw trade peak at £2200 for an Aberdeen Angus cross bullock from LR Carmicheal and Son, Berwick Hill.
The pre-sale champion, a Limousin cross heifer from P Guiry and Son, Glanton Town, later sold for £1700.
Judge, James Crichton, Loughrigg, awarded the champion honours amongst the suckled calves to a Limousin cross steer from Messrs Charlton, Whiteside. This nine-month-old steer sold for £1620.
Standing reserve was the first prize 11-month-old Limousin cross heifer from TCE Armstrong, Harlow Bower, which made £1650.
Heifers were topped at £1880 for Charolais crosses from Fitches Grange.
At the firm’s Bellingham show and sale of spring-born suckled calves, a Limousin cross heifer from Steven Richardson, Prospect Grange, secured the championship honours and top price of £1800.
The judge Jim Wilkinson, Leyburn, North Yorks, found his reserve in a similarly aged and bred calf from Eric and Mark Armstrong, Harlow Bower, Whitfield, which later made £1700.
Steers levelled at £1125 with heifers cashing in at £970.
The firm also sold 5746 store lambs to a top of £144 for Texel crosses from C R Gent, Steel Rigg.
