A 10-month-old Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Brown, Asby Hall, secured the pre-sale championship and sold for the top price of £3200 at Kirkby Stephen Mart.

The pre-sale show, judged by Amy Vance, Newton Stewart, saw the champion sell to Messrs Hargreaves, Walton Hall Farm, Preston.

Asby Hall also produced several of the top priced lots, selling a seven-month-old Limousin heifer to the judge for £2600 and a six-month-old Limousin heifer for £2200 to Neil Slack, Plumtree House.

All the Asby Hall Limousin calves were sired by Cloughead Napolean and saw others sell to £2200 for a seven-month-old heifer purchased by Messrs Walton, Hexham and a 10-month-old heifer realised £2100 to Messrs Mongomerie. A six-month-old British Blue heifer from Asby Hall, made £2300.

Neighbouring producers, Messrs Hayton, Asby Grange, also had a good day selling a 10-month-old British Blue cross heifer at £2600 to Messrs Barnett, Shap.

The reserve champion, a nine-month-old British Blue steer from Messrs Sedgley Low Bank House, Carnforth, was purchased by Messrs Harrison, Driffield, for £1850.

No fewer than 62 calves sold at between £1500 and £3200, to produce a steer average of £1237.58 (+£10.33 on the year) with heifers at £1221.8 (+£47.94). The overall average was £1230.60 (+£26.15).
