Averages fell by more than £300 per head and for 10 fewer sold at the British Limousin Cattle Society’s autumn show and sale at Carlisle – and that was with 16 bulls selling at five-figure prices.

Sale leader at 18,000gns was the April 2023-born bull, Killerton Uncanny, from Patrick Greed, Columbjohn Farm, Silverton, Exeter. This fourth prize winner is a son of Nealford Politician and out of the Foxhillfarm Montreal daughter, Killerton Panzer. He sold to Eric and Elaine Norman of Norman Farming Company, Carlisle.

Lloyd Fowlie, Guise of Tough, Alford, went to 15,000gns for the January 2023-born bull, Haulfryn Unboat from RG and RS Whitley, Haulfryn Farming, Buckley, Clwyd. Third in his class, he is sired by Ampertaine Elgin and out of Haulfryn Pia, a Harris-sired cow.

A red ticket holder at the pre-sale show, Upshot also stood breed champion and reserve inter-breed at Dumfries Show. He is sired by Ampertaine Opportunity and bred from the Wilodge LJ sired-dam, Goldies Obsession.

The same home sold the similarly aged bull, Goldies United for 14,000gns to Aberdeenshire breeder, Aileen Ritchie, Whiteside. Third in his class, he is a son of Goldies Terence and out of Goldies Melody, an Ampertaine Foreman daughter.

The reserve overall champion, Whinfellpark Unleash achieved 14,000gns for Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton Moor, Penrith. This April 2023-born bull is by Graiggoch Rambo and out of Whinfellpark Purdy, which goes back to Whinfellpark Lomu. Messrs Brass, Penrith, were the final bidders. Whinfellpark also took 10,000gns for Upperclass, which sold up to Banff with Graham Morrison, Inchbruich. Second in his class, this similarly aged bull is a son of Foxhill Jasper and bred from Whinfellpark Redruby.

Bruce Goldie's Goldies Upshot made 14,000gns Bruce Goldie's Goldies Upshot made 14,000gns Sandy Hunter, Wedderburn, Huntly, went to 10,000gns for the April 2023-born bull, Whinfellpark Underwriter again from Messrs Jenkinson. This red ticket holder is a son of Graiggoch Rambo and bred from Westpit Mila.

Ian and Andrew Nimmo, Bogside, Wishaw, were again in the money selling their April 2023-born bull, Maraiscote Utah for 12,000gns. This third prize winner is a son of Bassingfield Machoman and out of the Goldies Comet daughter, Maraiscote Heroine. He was knocked down to Page Bros, Northampton.

The Nimmos also received 10,000gns for the similarly aged Maraiscote Unit from Messrs Hill, Riding Mill, Northumberland. He is sired by the Irish purchase, Sliabh Felim Mourinho, and bred from Maraiscote Osprey, another Machoman daughter. Maraiscote Urock by the same sire then realised 9000gns, being out of Maraiscote Prada, he was knocked down to Ian Miller, Miller Farms Ltd, Inverurie.

First to achieve that price was Quickeeze Trigger from the Quick family, Loosebeare Manor, Devon. This second prize winner is backed by Loosebeare genetics being a son of Loosebeare Fantastic, out of Loosebeare Jessie, which goes back to Aghadolgan Emperor. The 22-month-old was knocked down to Messrs Field, Burnley, Lancashire.

The same home sold the April 2023-born bull, Loosebeare Uptop for 10,000gns to Messrs Waring and Son, York, North Yorkshire. Reserve junior champion he is by Ampertaine Jeronimo and bred from Loosebeare Lovely.

Tomschoice Undercover made the same money for JM and SP Cooper, Hill Top Farm, North Yorkshire. This February 2023-born bull is a son of Fieldson Ramos and out of Tomschoice Novel, which is by Mereside Leo. This red ticket holder found a new home with Messrs Thompson, Penrith.

Another from Bruce Goldie, Goldies United, also achieved 14,000gns Another from Bruce Goldie, Goldies United, also achieved 14,000gns The pre-sale champion, Brontemoor Urea from Richard and Sarah Priestley, Cracrop, Kirkcambeck, Brampton, was next to make 10,000gns. This 19-month-old is sired by Fieldson Nitram and out of the Knock Msport daughter, Brontemoor Penelope. Urea stood inter-breed at Cockermouth and Gilsland Shows, and sold to Messrs Wight and Sons, Melrose.

The second prize, Trueman Usher, made the same money for Henry Savage, Newry, Co Down. April 2023-born, he is by Telfers Munster, out of Trueman Olivia, and found a new home with Messrs Wells and Sons, Bakewell, Derbyshire.

Messrs Wood and Sons, Shrewsbury, went to 10,000gns for the May 2023-born, Haltcliffe Ultimate, from Craig and Matt Ridley, Haltcliffe, Hesket New Market, Wigton. This fourth prize winner is a son of Ampertaine Elgin and out of Glenrock Diamante, which has bred sons to 26,000gns and heifers to 16,000gns.

The first prize, Swarland Uaretheone, from Andrew Proctor, Swarland Old Hall, Swarland, Morpeth, was last to achieve the 10,000gns. May 2023-born this lad is by Ronick Nissan and out of Swarland Nine. Messrs Ridley, Hexham, gave the final bid.

Next best at 12,000gns was Maraiscote Utah from the Nimmos Next best at 12,000gns was Maraiscote Utah from the Nimmos The senior champion, Pabo Ultimatum then realised 8000gns for Llyr Hughes, Fferam Gyd, Llanbabo. This January 2023 born bull is sired by Haltcliffe Ben and bred from Pabo Rose and was knocked down to Messrs Brown, Richmond, North Yorkshire.

The same home then sold Pabo Upandunder for 8000gns to Monzie Farms, Crieff, managed by Wilson Peters. This March 2023-born entry is sired by Guards Boomer and out of Pabo Mared, which goes back to Norman Harvest.

Andrew Gammie, Drumforber, Laurencekirk, sold his 19-month-old, Westpit Uraking for 8000gns. A Huntershall Rosco, he is out of the heifer, Westpit Royalhighness and sold to Messrs McCallum, Tarbert, Argyll.

Just two females sold to a top of 7000gns for Goldies Ursula from Bruce Goldie, Townfoot, Dumfries. This May 2023-born heifer is a daughter of Woodmarsh Regent, and bred from Goldies Pianist. She travels down to Dorset with Messrs Loveless, Bridport.
