The pre-sale champion, a Limousin cross steer from the Stones family of Nun Cote Nook, went on to secure the top price of £1750 at Darlington Farmers Auction Marts’ show and sale of suckled calves.

Father and son duo, Johnathan and Harry Wales of Thackwood, were the pre-sale judges, and awarded the reserve ticket to a Limousin cross heifer from RA and S Wearmouth, Middletown, Long Newton, which later led the heifers at £1620.

Heifers and steers averaged £1082 (+£97) and £1260 (+£114).
