Females took the top price among the Beef Shorthorn breed, reaching 8500gns, with 32 females averaging £3068 (+£533 on the year, with 11 fewer sold).

Sale leader, Meonside Broadhooks Serenity, from Tom Bradley Farmer Wester Parkgate, Dumfries, stood champion in the pre-sale show. This June 2022 born heifer is a daughter of Podehole Piper, a sire bought privately for £10,000, and is bred from Meonside Broadhooks N31. She was sold in-calf to Meonside Rambo heading home to the Walkers of Netherwood, Banknock.

Reserve female champion, Coxhill Snowflake-S778 from Lucinda Townsend, Coxhill, Moffat secured 8000gns. Her April 2022 born heifer is a daughter of Meonside Nidavellir, out of Coxhill Snowflake-N480, and now travels across to Bute with Tom McMillan, Eskechraggan.

Just five bulls sold to average of £5187, creating a 71% clearance rate.

The pre-sale bull champion, Dumsleed Trojan, secured the top price of 7500gns for Gerald and Morag Smith, Drumsleed, Fordoun. This 19-month-old bull is sired by the Stirling purchase, Coxhill Pierce, and bred from Nonpariel X1221 of Upsall. He sold to Aucheneck Estates, Killearn.

Reserve champion, Headlind Soldier from Allan Jackson and Senga Hamilton-Guy, Woodyett, Lanark, realised 7000gns. A son of the privately bought Dunsyre Horatio, a Royal Highland, Great Yorkshire, and Royal Welsh champion, he is out of Headlind Rosette Nelly. This Novemeber-2022 bull has also succeeded at the Great Yorkshire securing junior champion. He found a new home with Low Barrows Green, Kendal.

The dispersal sale from the late, Gordon Brooke witnessed a top call of 6800gns for a cow and calf outfit. This five-year-old cow Gordon Millicent 405, a Meonhill Charlie Chaplin daughter is due to calve in April to Gordon White Gold. Selling with her heifer calf at foot, the April-born Gordon Millicent 060, also by White Gold. The pair are headed to Aberystwyth to join Evans and Price’s Llwynhywel herd.
