Allanfauld USA, from Archie and John MacGregor, Allanfauld, Kilsyth, secured the lead price of 12,000gns amongst the Limousins.
In all, 38 bulls averaged £6303, down £750 on the year but with nine more finding new homes. The clearance rate was a disappointing 59%.
Reserve intermediate champion USA, an April 2023-born bull, is sired by the private purchase Milbrook Playboy which goes back to top show cow Milbrook Gingerspice. USA’s dam is the heifer Allanfauld Poet, a Goldies Lordoftherings daughter. Final bidder was Kevin Eunson, Braebuster, Deerness, Orkney.
Just behind on 11,000gns was Goldies Uncle from Bruce Goldie, Townfoot, Mouswald, when selling to the Thomson family – John and Natalie, and family Beth, Ellie, and Jack – of Hilton of Beath, Fife. A red ticket holder, he is from the first crop of sons by Woodmarsh Regent and out of the heifer, Goldies Pam.
First time consignor, Grant Morrison of the Newtack herd, Keith, also had plenty to celebrate, when he sold his September 2022-born bull for 10,000gns to J and J Pattullo, Sandyford, Angus. His Senior champion, Newtack Turbo is sired by Plumtree Fantastic and out of one of the foundation cows, Emslies Insi, which was purchased for 4500gns.
The reserve overall champion, Glenrock Upstanding made 8500gns for Stephen and Thomas Illingworth, Howgillside, Lockerbie. This 20-month-old bull is sired by Mattben and bred from the heifer Eagleside Rhumba, which goes back to Wilodge LJ. He travels to Aberfeldy with P Mcdiarmid, Shenlarich, Lawers.
Top price for Ian and Andrew Nimmo, Bogside, Wishaw, was 8500gns paid for the April 2023-born bull, Maraiscote Urbane. Reserve junior champion, this boy is a son of Maraiscote Floyd, which was champion at the Royal Highland Show in 2011 before selling for 30,000gns. The dam, Maraiscote Otter, goes back to the 50,000gns Bassingfield Machoman which has bred various high flyers for the herd. Urbane was knocked down to Islay Estates, Isle of Islay.
The same home then sold Maraiscote Utwo for 8000gns to Thomas Meiklem, Lochran, Fife. This January 2023-born which stood third in his class is a direct son of Bassingfield Machoman and bred from the Goldies Comet daughter, Maraiscote Japonica.
Another third prize winner, Maraiscote Uncletam made the same money when selling to Laga Farms, Orkney. This 17-month-old is sired by Sliabh Felim Mourinho, which was purchased out of southern Ireland for €11,000 and has since bred sons to 11,000gns. The dam, Maraiscote Paulina, is another that goes back to Machoman.
Two other bulls sold for 8000gns. First was Corsairtly Umbro from the Davidson family – Richard and Kathleen, son Richard and daughter Rachel – Corsairtly, Keith. Their March 2023-born bull stood second in the show and is sired by Whinfellpark Ronaldo, which was purchased as a young calf. Male champion at Nairn Show, he is out of the Maythorn Focker daughter Corsairtly Indie, and found a new home with Boginduie Farming Co, Boginduie, Aberlour.
Dyke Urgent sold for the same money for Donald and Jimmy MacGregor, Dyke, Milton of Campsie, Glasgow, when selling to AJ Robb, Townhead, Stirling. This 19-month-old is a son of Goldies Lordoftherings, which was purchased out of Carlisle for 12,000gns after standing pre-sale champion and has since bred sons to 17,000gns. The dam, Dyke Neve, is backed by home-bred genetics being a son of Dyke Gandalf.
The same home sold Dyke Uno, a second prize bull, for 7500gns to A and D Proctor, Swarland, Morpeth. This February 2023-born bull is sired by Ronick Provence and bred from Dyke Nicole, which is a daughter of Dyke Gangalf.
Dyke Unit then made 7000gns when the hammer fell to J Dalrymple-Hamilton, Bargany Farms, Girvan. This April 2023-born entry which is a full brother to a 13,000gns bull sold last year, is a son of Whinfellpark Ohagan, out of Dyke Nina.
Next in the money at 7500gns was the January 2023-born bull, Midlock Uno, from Allan Wight, Midlock, Crawford. This red ticket holder is a result of the sire Goldies Comet onto Dyke Highness, which goes back to Virginia Andy. Peter Alexander, Mains of Mause, Blairgowrie, took this lad home.
