Prices peaked at 3300gns for a nine-month-old heifer calf at the Carldanton Autumn Opportunity sale of pedigree Holsteins, staged at Carlisle on behalf of Anthony Grimshaw, Bolton, Lancashire.
The event, which followed the Border and Lakeland Holstein Club sale, was topped at Carldanton Boraz Springsteen, a member of the winning family group in this year’s Summer Herd Competition.
Sale leader was Carldanton Boraz Springsteen, a daughter of DG Boraz with her third dam being the Ex94 Carldanton Chief Springsteen that was second prize production cow at this year’s UK Dairy Expo. Her next dam is an Ex94 Explode. She was purchased by Messrs Borrow of the Stardale herd, Broughton, Preston.

Second top price was 2800gns paid for Carldanton Lambda Sharon, purchased by Messrs McKinley from Stranraer. A daughter of Lambda, she gave more than 13,000kg in her first and sold fresh in her second giving 60kg per day.
A maternal sister to the dam of the previous lot, Carldanton Delta Lambda Sharon, a fresh heifer, made 2700gns selling to Messrs Paterson, Maybole.
Just behind on 2500gns, Drumchapel Estate, Brechin, bought Carldanton Lambda Mahogany, a similarly aged heifer in milk by the same sire.

Averages: Eight cows and heifers in milk, £2605.31; 10 served heifers, £1344.00; 13 bulling heifers, £1058.08; 23 heifer calves, £1033.42.
