Heifers led the trade at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ sale of 1044 store cattle, young bulls and young and weaned calves at Thainstone, when a 430kg Limousin cross from Campdalmore, Tomintoul, made 346.5p per kg, and a 708kg Aberdeen Angus from Netherton, Aberlour, sold for £1990.

Heifers (239) averaged 296.3p with bullocks (348) cashing in at 304.7p.

Bullocks sold to 344p for a 404kg Limousin from Leary, Marwick, and to £1950 for a 664kg Simmental cross from Craigiebrae, Aberchirder.

Weaned bullocks (115) and heifers (65) averaged 326.p and 321.1p respectively.

Limousin crosses led the bullocks at 404.3p for a pair weighing 376kg from Govals, Kincaldrum, and to £1760 for 562kg entries from South Ballo, Abernyte.

Weaned heifers peaked at 390.6p for a 256kg Limousin cross from Tamala, Burnside, and to £1720 for a 534kg of the same breed from South Ballo.

At the pre-sale show, judge Blair Duffton, Bogie Street, Huntly, awarded the championship to a 450kg Limousin cross heifer from P Cooper and Son, Govals, Kincaldrum, which he later purchased for £1600.

Mr Duffton also bought his choice of reserve at £1580 – a 454kg Limousin cross steer from A and H Sim and Son, Rorandle, Monymusk.

Simmentals led the bull trade at 280.5p for a 328kg entry from Towie, New Aberdour, and to £1020 for a 366kg animal from Temple Farm, Inverness.
