Northern Ireland Charolais breeder Harry Heron is toasting success after his online sale in conjunction with H&H, Carlisle, saw prices peak at £7100 and a 100% clearance.

Mr Heron, who owns the Loughriscouse herd from Newtownards, Co Down, had selected a number of females and a bull to be sold using the online platform MartEye.

According to James Little of H&H, there were 8930 views of the cattle during the timed online auction which resulted in 216 bids with 42% of the lots purchased for export to the mainland.

Sale leader was Loughriscouse Tannisha, an August 2022-born daughter of Gretnahouse Pouncer, that boasts numerous prize accolades to her name including senior female champion at the NI Charolais Future Stars in 2023 and a red rosette at Balmoral in May.

Bred from the Thrunton Fairfax daughter, Hollywell Latin, which was purchased at Carlisle for 7000gns in 2017, she was purchased by Matthew Ham, Somerset.

The January 2021-born Loughriscouse Sahara and her heifer calf, Vivian, made £6700 selling to AR and J McKeown, Ballymena. Sahara is sired by Harestone Hercules and out of the Blelack Edition-sired Goldies Locket. Her March-born calf is by Falleninch Sancerre.

Local breeder Liam Clarke, Portaferry, bought the first lot in the catalogue – Loughriscouse Tafara, a 28-month-old heifer, for £6000.

Another with a show career behind her, this Harestone Hercules daughter was reserve junior female at Balmoral and intermediate female at Clougher Valley last year. Her dam is Loughriscouse Ivory. She sold to local breeder Liam Clarke, Portaferry.

Averages: Seven heifers, £4757.14; three cows and calves, £5250.
