Simmental cross cattle secured the majority of top prices at a show and sale of breeding cattle at Thainstone on Wednesday.

Top price was £4250 paid for a Simmental cross cow with Charolais cross bull calf from C and M Emslie, Law Farm, Insch, purchased by J Durno, Mansefield.

Law Farm also sold the top priced bull at 6000gns, a three-year-old Charolais.

A Limousin cross heifer with Limousin cross heifer calf at foot from Messrs Smith, Towiemore, was tapped out champion and sold for £3500.

This outfit was knocked down at £3750 to WJ Jack and Son, Woodend.

The sale of 210 lots saw heifers with bull calf average £3243.18 having sold to £3850 for a Simmental cross heifer with March-born Charolais cross calf from Law Farm.

Heifers with heifer calf (36) averaged £3150, reaching a high of £3750 for a Simmental cross heifer and July-born Limousin cross calf from South Blachrie, Fyvie.

Cows with bull calf (66) levelled at £2918.31, with a top of £4250 paid for Simmental cross cow with March-born Charolais cross calf from Law Farm, Insch who also topped the cows with heifer calf (40) which averaged £2603.75, with a Simmental cross cow and April-born Charolais cross that made £3900.

In-calf cows (19) sold to £2200 twice for a Simmental cross from Law Farm and for a similarly bred entry from Cairntack, Belhelvie, to average £1985.79.
