Entries from Brian and Michael Yates’ Logan herd from Castle Douglas topped the inaugural Jersey Jewels sale at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, with two milking heifers selling at 2200gns each and another two at 2000gns.
The father and son duo sold 15 cows and heifers with first 2200gns sale coming for Logan Victorious Glamour VG89, a March 2022-born daughter of River Valley Victorious out of the VG985-2yr Logan Video Glamour. She changed hands served to an Aberdeen Angus in August to Messrs Parker, Merkland, Kirkmichael, Ayr, who also went to 2000gns for the similarly aged Logan Victorious Glitter. She is also sired by Victorious and sold sexed to mid July to ELM-J S Brecken.
The second 2200gns sale came for Logan Casino Glamour, a calved heifer by Elliotts Regency Casino that sold in calf sexed to Dupat FirstCut. She sold to J Hodge, Bogwood, Mauchline. The two 2200gns calved heifers go back to the 1989 Oaklea Gemni Ginger Ex94 cow that was grand champion at the Canadian National Show.
The Yates also took 2000gns for the first lot in the ring, Logan Jordan Glamour 2 VG85-3yr, an April 2021-born heifer in milk sired by Audibel Jordan, that calved at the end of June and sold sexed to o ELM-JS Brecken. She sold to Robbie and Margo Scott, Shacklehill, Tarbolton, Ayrshire.
Just behind on 1950gns, the family sold Logan Ferdinand Glow GP84, a Lightning Ridge Ferdinand daughter that calved at 24months to Messrs Wilson, Wyke Farm, Cartmel, Grange over Sands. She sold served at the end of August sexed to ELM-J S Brecken.
Matching that 1950gns sale was Kerricks Video Claire from the Dumfriesshire-based Kerricks herd managed by Scott McGill. She is sired by St Lo Video, and sold freshly calved in August, to the Parker family from Ayrshire.
In-calf heifers were topped at 1700gns for Longing Venus Bandangle, consigned by EG Armitage, Long Ing, Flockton. She is sired by River Valley Venus VIP and was bought by the Leitch family from Ayrshire.
