Trade peaked at £2650 and a further 116 Holstein heifers in milk averaged £2211, at the September Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale at Carlisle.
The event which attracted a catalogued entry of 372 head from across the North of England, Scotland and Wales, was topped by a heifer from the Baillie family, Hillhead of Covington Farm near Biggar. Covington Radical Flow, sired by Ri-Val-Re Radical and bred from a high production dam that gave more than 11,000kgs as a two-year-old, she sold to Messrs Graham, Blairdrummond, Stirling.
The same home took £2550 for Covington Sublime Beaujolais, a late July-calved heifer purchased by Messrs Robinson, Lanercost, Brampton.

The Wadsworth family from Big Balcraig Farm near Newton Stewart sold 10 milking heifers to average £2442 with two at £2550. The first of those was a daughter of Hardball purchased by Messrs McCreery, Wigtown, Newton Stewart. The second, sired by ST Gen Helix Paco, was bought by Messrs Hunter, Berrier, Penrith.
Steven Boow from the Dunnderdale herd sold four heifers and matched the £2550 sale with Dunnderdale Lugnut Ivory. She was knocked down to Messrs Millar, Kirkpatrick Fleming, Lockerbie.
Matthew Gemmell’s Brownfield herd from Dumfries, also received £2550 for a Bomaz Episode-sired heifer, purchased by Messrs Hyslop, Eaglesfield, Lockerbie.
In-calf Holstein heifers sold to £2000 on three occasions from Robert McColm, Stranraer. All sold due early October to an Angus sire.
Youngstock from the Williams’ Clwch herd from Anglesey was led by a 2200gns sale for Clwch Luster Destiny. Bred from nine Excellent or Very Good-classifed dams, she sold due in February to the Hereford.

Clwch youngstock – 26 Holstein short-bred heifers, £1172.36; 35 Holstein yearling and heifer calves, £884.70
