A top price of 6000gns and an overall average of £3010 were the main highlights of the Border and Lakeland Bull sale of Holstein and British Friesians, at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, on Monday.
Sale leader was the June 2023-born bull, Warnelview Franz, from the Wilson family, Wood Farm, Thursby, Carlisle, who sold eight bulls to average just short of £3500.
A son of Willsbro Abbot, he is out of the Ex92 classified dam, Warnelview Wyman Flo. Final bidders were Messrs Metcalfe and Son, Brearton, Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

The same home sold two bulls for 4000gns. First was the June 2023-born Warnelview Kestrel, which sold to Newhouse Farming, Stepford Road, Holywood, Dumfries. Bred from the Ex90-classified dam, Warnelview Unix Kimo, he is by S-S-I Pr Renegade.
On the same price tag was the rising yearling, Warnelview Real Deal, a son of AOT Hampshire bred from Willsbro Abbott Roxy. He found a new home with Messrs Bunting in Derbyshire.
The pre-sale judge, Aubrey Greenhalgh of Enchanted Holsteins, Lancashire, tapped out Warnelview Newport as his choice of champion, which later sold for 3500gns to Messrs Jones, Mollington, Chester. Another Renegade son, he is bred from Warnelview Control Nita 2 Ex93.
In an all Scottish transaction, Matthew Armour, The Milton, Moffat, sold Annandale Popper for 4800gns to Messrs Meredith, Strichen, Aberdeen. This 16-month-old is backed by home-bred genetics being sired by Annandale Finally and out of Annandale Bill Papoose.
Leading the British Friesians at 4200gns was Nerewater Reliant Gallant from Richard Bell, Nerewater, Kirkbride, Wigton. Reserve at the pre-sale show, he is sired by Nerewater Reliant and was bred from the Ex94-classified Nerewater Gladlass 33 which has produced more than 60t of milk.
Gallant was purchased by Messrs Howat from Auchinleck, Cumnock.
Another from the same stable, Nerewater Reliant Missile, realised 4000gns when selling down to North Yorkshire with Messrs Gratton, Warsill, Harrogate. By the same sire he is out of Nerewater Mistress 19.

Averages:18 Holstein bulls, £3112.94 (+£290.30 for the same number); 12 British Friesian bulls, £2815.91 (-£245.59 for the same number). Overall, 30 bulls, £3010.25.
