Bullocks sold to 346.20p for a 364kg Limousin cross from Kirkland, and to £2000 for a 710kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Goddens.

A 438kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Symington Mains, topped the heifers at 352.70p, whilst a 594kg Simmental cross realised £1815 for Pittenkerrie.

Charolais crosses from Crawlaw topped the young bulls at 264.20p and £1300 for a 492kg entry, having cashed in at 220.88p.

Thainstone

Aberdeen and Northern Marts' sale of 799 store cattle incorporated an annual show and sale of Aberdeen Angus, which saw the champion, a 676kg bullock from Sheep Park Farms sell for the top price of £2260.

Judge, Frank Fowlie, Bogenjohn, Strichen, found his reserve in a 562kg steer from the same home which later made £1780.

Outwith the show, bullocks (252) averaged 303.8p with heifers (93) cashing in at 299.1p respectively.

A 407kg British Blue cross led the bulls at 308.5p for Braebuster, Deerness, or to £1660 for a 610kg Charolais cross from Nessbreck, Harray.

Breeding cattle (6) sold to £4000 for a Simmental cross heifer with a Limousin cross heifer calf from Upper Sauchen, Inverurie.

The firm's rare breed sale comprised three horses, 14 cattle, 69 pigs, 375 sheep, 68 goats and six alpacas and sold to 1800gns for a Highland cow and calf outfit.

On Tuesday, store lambs (2045) averaged £85.87 having sold to £128 for Texels from Evergreen, Kininmonth.

The same breed led the island consigned store lambs (2909) at £121 for Balfour Castle, Balfour, to level out at £86.59.

More than 10,000 store lambs came under the hammer at Dingwall and Highlands Marts' sale where a top price of £130 was paid for Suffolk crosses from Ardmore, Waternish.

Cheviot wedder lambs (7229) averaged £69.28 (up £11.24) and sold to £113 from Little Cuiltburn, Braes of Balnabeen, whilst Cheviot ewe lambs (1879) cashed in at £71.49 (up £12.65) having peaked at £112 for Coast, Inverasdale.

The firm also sold 6479 store lambs on a separate day where averages improved among all sections.

Topping the sale was Texels at £127 from Achnahaugh, East Langwell, with this breeding cashing in at £86.50 (+£11.17 on the year).

Beltex cross lambs (550) cashed in at £98.44 (+£17.19) having peaked at £125 from Maryhill, Stornoway.

Lewis livestock producers lambs (548) averaged £56.55 (+£15.46) and sold to £88 for a Cheviot from 25 Breasclete, Westside.
